Egypt: The Suez Canal still operational despite a technical failure of a bulk carrier

The bulk carrier GLORY, while in transit through the Suez Canal, suddenly experienced a technical failure of its machinery at kilometer 38 (Canal mark).

With a length of 225 meters, a width of 32 meters and a tonnage of 41,000 tons, the ship was coming from Turkey and was transiting in the north convoy, bound for China.

Admiral Ossama Rabie, Chairman and Managing Director of the Suez Canal Authority, said in a reassuring message that navigation in the Suez Canal was not affected by this sudden incident.

In order to quickly resolve this incident, 4 tugboats were used, including the “Port Said” with a 95-ton bollard pull capacity, to tow the ship until it stopped at the nearest point in the Al-Ballah area to repair the malfunction of its machinery.

After this incident, 51 ships (25 from the north and 26 from the south) crossed the Suez Canal on Monday.
