Summary
The IOI Ocean Academy (Morocco) based in the Kingdom of Morocco, is an Ocean Literacy outreach initiative of the International Ocean Institute dedicated to the French speaking countries of West Africa bordering the Atlantic Ocean. The IOI Ocean Academy has been endorsed as a Decade Action of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).
In accordance with the mission of the IOI Ocean Academy, the courses provided for the IOI Ocean Academy (Morocco) are designed and developed with the aim of initiating and strengthening awareness and education about the ocean, by providing a better understanding of ocean-related issues. They address specific international and regional themes related to West Africa and national themes on the ocean.
IOI Ocean Academy Description
The main objective of the IOI Ocean Academy is to increase ocean literacy in local communities by offering free-of-charge dedicated online courses on ocean awareness in local languages and created and delivered by local experts. These online programmes are delivered in the form of presentations by internationally renowned researchers/teachers/experts, and are intended for a varied audience of interested laypersons, including people interested in ocean themes, researchers and young researchers, students, members of associations, foundations etc.
The sessions scheduled for 2026 are varied, diversified and will cover various and current themes on the ocean at international, regional (specific to West Africa), focussing particularly on the national level.
