Gambia – CMA CGM Chief Security Officer Pays Courtesy Call to The Gambia Ports Authority

The Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) received a high-level delegation from CMA CGM led by Mr. Dartaguiette Jean Michel, Chief Security Officer, CMA CGM Head Office, Marseille, France. The courtesy call focused on port and maritime security, operational cooperation, and ongoing developments in The Gambia’s port sector. He was accompanied by Mr. Dominique Amien, Managing Director CMA CGM Gambia, and Mr. Alieu Jobe, Customer Service Manager.

The delegation was received by GPA Managing Director Mr. Ousman Jobarteh, Chief Pilot Mr. Bubacarr Ceesay, and Alport Management representatives Mr. Cem, Port Manager, and Mr. Baris, Head of Security. In his remarks, MD Jobarteh reaffirmed GPA’s commitment to maintaining a safe and secure port environment, noting that The Gambia has never experienced any piracy or armed robbery at the Port of Banjul. He highlighted the strong multi-agency security framework at the port involving Customs, Police, Navy, Immigration, Interpol, NDLEA and other agencies.

Discussions also covered potential risks in international port operations including illegal migration, drug trafficking, movement of stolen vehicles, smuggling and unauthorized access. Mr. Cem briefed the delegation on the Albayrak Group’s global port operations and its role in transforming The Gambia’s port sector, with emphasis on major developments including the Albayrak concession, Banjul Port expansion and the Sanyang Deep Sea Port project.

The visit concluded with a guided tour of the Port of Banjul led by Mr. Baris, giving the CMA CGM team first-hand insight into terminal operations and security procedures. The courtesy call reaffirmed the shared commitment of GPA, CMA CGM and Alport Banjul to strengthening cooperation, enhancing security, and supporting the growth of The Gambia’s maritime and logistics sector.
