GAMBIA MARITIME ADMINISTRATION OFFICIALS MEET CONARINA GROUP- (SHIP CLASSIFICATION) IN MIAMI, U.S.A.

Senior Officials of Gambia Maritime Administration led by the Deputy Director General- Mr. Ousman Touray, met with officials of Conarina Group, in the U.S. at the beginning of January to discuss and work on an agreement for Conarina Group to serve as a Regcognised Organisation (RO) for The Gambia.

The week-long technical audit by GMA officials is to assess and authenticate the standard of operation of Conarina Group as required under the IMO SOLAS/MARPOL instruments, in particular, RO Code on Delegation of Statutory Functions of Flag State.

Thus, the mission is a statutory survey of Recognised Organization, (RO), to be authorised for inspection, classification and certification of Gambia Flagged ships. The RO to do this functions has to be assessed technically, financially, and structurally with evidence of good technical capacity and experience to class ships as per the RO Code of IMO.

Other evidence is its track record with Flag Administration and in this case with U.S COAST GUARD and compliance with IMO SOLAS & MARPOL.

The agreement will be based on the successful survey as indicated in the IMO RECOGNISED ORGANIZATION (RO) Code.
