GHANA NAVY AND NIGERIAN HYDROGRAPHIC AGENCY STRENGTHEN COLLABORATION
The Ghana Navy and the Nigerian Hydrographic Agency have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in hydrography to enhance maritime safety and improve accurate charting of regional waters.
This interaction occurred during a visit paid by a delegation led by the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Hydro Agency, Rear Admiral Ayo Olugbode, to the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, at the Naval Headquarters on Monday, 13 April 2026.
Rear Admiral Olugbode highlighted the importance of cooperation among hydrographic institutions in advancing maritime surveying and technical capacity across the region. He added that accurate hydrographic data support safe navigation, maritime trade, and the sustainable management of ocean resources.
In response, Rear Admiral Bessing outlined steps the Ghana Navy has taken to enhance hydrographic operations, including strengthening survey capabilities and building technical partnerships. He commended the initiative and emphasised that stronger cooperation will help safeguard Ghana’s maritime domain and enhance security across the Gulf of Guinea.
The Director-General of the Ghana Maritime Authority, Naval Captain Dr Kamal-Deen Ali (Retired), Hydrographer of Nigeria, Rear Admiral Olumide Fadahunsi, and Senior Technical Advisor (Policy Innovation and Strategy), Commodore Amatare Kpou, were also present.
