GPA DEEPENS COLLABORATION WITH SANYANG COMMUNITY FOR PORT DEVELOPMENT
The Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) held an in-depth meeting with the Sanyang Village Development Committee, the Council of Elders of Sanyang, and local leaders to discuss the promising deep-sea port project in Sanyang. The Managing Director Ousman Jobarteh and top management of GPA, engaged in productive discussions and visited the proposed site, underscoring GPA’s commitment to transparent, community-focused development.
Abdoulie Gaye Chairman of the Village Development Commitee highlighted the community’s rediness and commitment towards the project. The Alkalo of Sanyang Lamin Jabang Representing the council of elders also expressed happiness to have been able to witness such a significant milestone coming to the community of sanyang. He called for corporation and unity amongst stakeholders.
Key government representatives were in attendance, including the Minister of Works Transport & Infrastructure Hon, Ebrima Sillah, Mod AK Secka PS MOTIRIE, and AfDB Desk officer MoFEA. Their presence, along with other key stakeholders, reinforced the collaborative nature of this initiative and highlighted the government’s strong support for the project and people of Sanyang.
During the site visit, officials expressed their appreciation for the Sanyang community’s proactive role in identifying a suitable area for the port. Their commendations underscored the importance of local insights and collaboration, which are vital for steering the project towards success. Concerns raised by the Sanyang team were carefully considered amongst the concerns highlighted was having deep sea port within the identified allocation. GPA management assured that every perspective would be integrated into the upcoming study and development plans. This meeting further reinforced GPA’s dedication to fostering strong partnerships with local communities. Further ensuring that the project not only boosts maritime trade but also drives economic growth and infrastructural development within the region. Through open dialogue and continuous engagement, GPA and its stakeholders are working together to create a prosperous environment.
As we move forward, GPA will continue to collaborate closely with the Sanyang Village Development Committee, the Council of Elders, and other key partners to ensure that this transformative initiative is implemented with the utmost integrity and transparency.
