LIBERATION OF THE CHINESE FISHING VESSEL ALLEGEDLY HIJACKED OFF THE COAST OF SOMALIA

In relation to the Chinese fishing vessel involved in a case of ARMED ROBBERY AT SEA* off the northeast coast of Puntland, Somalia, Operation ATALANTA was informed by the Chinese Embassy to Somalia that the vessel was liberated today morning. According to the information provided, no crew members were injured, and the vessel is in transit to safe waters.

During this event, EUNAVFOR ATALANTA has remained in permanent contact with the appropriate Somali and Chinese authorities, the Chinese Task Force in the area, and the Delegation of the European Union to Somalia.

EUNAVFOR ATALANTA reminds fully committed to deterring, preventing, and repressing any piracy action in the Area of Operations, while continuing to coordinate and cooperate with partners and regional actors in maritime security.
