Maritime Incident Involving Seychelles Coast Guard Personnel
The Seychelles Defence Forces announced that a maritime incident involving a Seychelles Coast Guard vessel and several members of its crew occurred on Wednesday, 16 September 2026.
The patrol vessel Andromache had been deployed that morning as part of a routine operation to tow an old vessel intended to be deliberately sunk at sea.
An explosion occurred during the operation, according to information provided by the Seychelles Defence Forces.
Three crew members were on board the vessel at the time of the incident. One of them was rescued, while a search operation is currently underway to locate the two sailors who remain missing.
Search operations are continuing to locate the two crew members who are still unaccounted for.
