Mauritius and Côte d’Ivoire to forge strategic partnership to unlock blue economy potential
The Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, Mr Sidi Tiémoko Touré, accompanied by an official delegation, met the Minister of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries, Dr Arvin Boolell, this morning in Port-Louis.
The Junior Minister of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries, Mr Gilles Fabrice David, was also present.
In a statement following the meeting, Dr Arvin Boolell highlighted that discussions centred on collaborative strategies to unlock mutually beneficial opportunities. He particularly emphasised the blue economy as a key sector for partnership, adding that Mauritius remains fully committed to sharing its expertise and best practices with Côte d’Ivoire.
Minister Boolell outlined strategies to maximise the blue economy sector’s potential by investing in sustainable lagoon and off-lagoon projects, advancing marine research, fostering private sector partnerships and transforming marine products.
He indicated that both nations have agreed to prioritise bankable, high-yield investments, and Mauritius will soon formalise a Memorandum of Understanding with Côte d’Ivoire to benefit entrepreneurs and researchers.
Dr Boolell moreover welcomed this collaboration to also partner to tackle illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing.
