NSC Boss Commends NESRA’s Activities in Nigerian Ports
The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr. Akutah Pius MON, has commended the National Environmental Standards Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESRA) for its crucial enforcement activities in the nation’s seaports.
Dr. Akutah made the commendation during a courtesy visit by the agency’s Acting Director, Lagos Liaison Office, Dr. Jonathan Dajel to the NSC’s Office in Lagos on Tuesday.
The NSC boss emphasized the importance of allowing NESRA to carry out its mandate unhindered at the nation’s seaport.
He highlighted the Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, Economy’s commitment to sustainable ocean resource management and called for NESRA to ratify and domesticate its agreements for mutual benefit.
He also stressed the need for synergy among government agencies, emphasizing collaboration over antagonism.
Dr. Dajel sought a partnership with the Council as the Port Economic Regulator, citing challenges in accessing port terminals for enforcement activities.
He noted Nigeria’s signatory status to international environmental conventions and NESRA’s role in issuing Ballast Water Management Certificates to regulate marine pollution.
Both parties expressed support for collaboration, recognizing its potential to enhance port operations and environmental sustainability.
