In a historic ceremony presided over by the President of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, ZF Devco B.V., representing an international consortium of Dutch and Tanzanian companies, joined forces with the Zanzibar Ports Corporation (ZPC) to launch a groundbreaking initiative: the development of a brand-new passenger and RoRo (Roll-on Roll-off) ferry terminal in Maruhubi, Zanzibar.

The first phase of the Zanzibar Ferry Terminal development project, estimated at 250 million US dollars, will focus on marine infrastructure and terminals. Subsequent phases, requiring a further investment of between 100 and 150 million US dollars, will include a Special Economic Zone, reception services, distribution, logistics, offices and a hall for trade fairs and conferences.

The Minister of Infrastructure, Communication and Transport, Dr. Khalid Salum Mohamed, on behalf of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, emphasized the project’s key role in unlocking Zanzibar’s shipping potential, in line with President Hussein Ali Mwinyi’s blue economy vision.

At the event, Mr. Akif Ali Khamis, Managing Director of the Zanzibar Ports Corporation (ZPC), emphasized the strategic importance of developing the Zanzibar Ferry Terminal, supporting the government’s plans to unlock the potential of the Blue Economy and enhance the passenger experience.

Located north of Stone Town, the Maruhubi project covers 34 hectares. ZF Devco is committed to leaving a positive legacy by promoting economic growth, preserving the environment, and improving the quality of life for all Zanzibar’s inhabitants.
