Seminar on the harmonization of methods for the production of port statistics in PMAWCA ports
From September 20 to 23, 2022, a seminar was held in Libreville, Gabon, on the harmonization of methods for producing port statistics in the ports of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA).
As statistical information is becoming more and more indispensable in port management and operations, the member ports of PMAWCA were keen to get together to harmonize and share best practices on their data collection.
Organized by PMAWCA, the seminar which opened under the impetus of Mr. Brice Constant Paillat, Gabonese Minister of Transport, was attended by 65 delegates from 16 countries of West and Central Africa who engaged in an intense reflection on the mechanisms and concepts of convergence in port statistics, under the technical supervision of two experts from France and Ivory coast. The outcome of this reflection was a harmonized model and some recommendations for member ports and the PMAWCA administration to ensure harmonized and efficient collection, processing, analysis and sharing of statistical information in the sub-region.
