Senegal: Bargny-Sendou Mineral and Bulk Port Project 90% Complete
During the Council of Ministers held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, under the chairmanship of His Excellency Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, President of the Republic of Senegal, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko presented a detailed update on the progress of the Bargny-Sendou Mineral and Bulk Port.
He recalled that the Bargny-Sendou Mineral and Bulk Port (PMVB), a strategic project of the State of Senegal developed by Senegal Minergy Port (SMP), is intended to handle imports and exports of mining, petroleum, and grain products, and to sustainably ease congestion at the Port of Dakar.
The progress of the works has reached nearly 90%. However, the commissioning of the port remains conditional upon resolving the issue of potable water supply.
To this end, the Prime Minister instructed the Minister of Infrastructure, in coordination with the Minister of Finance and Budget and the Minister in charge of Water Resources, to secure a firm commitment from Senegal Minergy Port for the implementation of a storage system enabling a temporary solution, and to ensure close monitoring of its execution.
Furthermore, he directed the Minister of Finance and Budget to include, in the amended 2026 Finance Law, the necessary funding for the definitive potable water supply solution, amounting to 8 billion CFA francs, in accordance with the technical recommendations of SONES.
