SOUTH AFRICA : PORT OF EAST LONDON SUCCESFULLY CONCLUDES 2022/2023 CRUISE SEASON

The 2022/23 cruise season is proving to be a success as the Port of East London exceeds its planned vessel calls by three additional cruise liners. Passenger vessel, Island Sky marked the closure of the cruise season on 13 April with 77 crew members and 88 passengers onboard.

The highlight of the Port’s cruise season is the increase in vessel calls with the port recording a whopping 21 cruise vessel calls versus 18 planned.

“As we celebrate a successful cruise season, we are confident that we are realising the port’s objective of increasing economic activities and boosting the tourism sector in the province.” said TNPA Port Manager, Sphiwe Mthembu.

According to Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality’s Tourism department, the cruise vessels contribute significantly towards the recovery of the tourism sector which was negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The cruise patrons visiting our country positively contribute in enhancing the local economy.
