The Port Autonome de Cotonou Obtains EcoPort Certification, Reinforcing its Commitment to Sustainable Development
The Port Autonome de Cotonou recently marked a significant milestone by receiving the prestigious EcoPort label certification. This international recognition highlights the port’s ongoing efforts in favour of sustainable development, joining the select circle of ports committed to a responsible environmental approach.
For several years now, the Port Autonome de Cotonou has been implementing tangible initiatives aimed at improving the quality of its services, while placing environmental protection and health and safety at work at the heart of its priorities. These efforts have already been recognised with the award of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018 certifications.
With a view to continuous improvement, PAC persists in its actions to maintain and strengthen its high environmental standards, in line with international standards. EcoPort certification, awarded by the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO), confirms this approach by recognising the measures taken by the port to improve its environmental management.
The EcoPort label, initiated in 1997 by visionary ports, is based on the fundamental principle of raising awareness of environmental protection through cooperation and the sharing of knowledge between ports. Its aim is to promote continuous improvement in the environmental management of ports, thereby encouraging the introduction of responsible practices.
It should be noted that the award of the EcoPort label reinforces the positioning of the Port of Cotonou as a future logistics hub for the sub-region.
