UNODC/DRTC Opening Ceremony of the Workshop ‘Maritime Law Enforcement Strategic Forum for Operational Sustainability Western Indian Ocean Region’ as part of an initiative supported by Japan

On October 15, 2024, the Ambassador of Japan to Djibouti, H.E. Mr. Keiichi HARA, participated in the opening ceremony of the workshop ‘Maritime Law Enforcement Strategic Forum for Operational Sustainability, Western Indian Ocean Region’ which took place at the Djibouti Regional Training Center (DRTC) and will run until October 17, 2024.

This workshop is organized by UNODC as part of the Project ‘Strengthening Maritime Security and the Rule of Law at Sea in Africa to maintain a Free and Open Maritime Space toward a Free and Open Indo-Pacific’, funded by the Government of Japan to the tune of 2.7 million USD, with the objective of strengthening the capacities of maritime security actors in 15 African countries.

The ceremony was attended not only by the Chief of the Special Staff of the President of the Republic, the Advisor to the President of the Republic on defense matters, the President of the Ports and Free Zones Authorities, the Commander of the Djiboutian Coast Guard, and the Director of DRTC, who were keen to encourage the Chiefs and members of the Coast Guard from invited countries, namely the Comoros Islands, the Republic of Djibouti, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, South Africa, Somalia, and the United Republic of Tanzania.
