WACT commissions 16 brand new terminal trucks at the Port of Onne, Nigeria
West Africa Container Terminal (WACT) recently commissioned 16 brand new Terminal Trucks, to boost efficiency and cargo handling operations at the Onne Port, Rivers State, Nigeria. With the acquisition and commissioning of the new terminal trucks, WACT now boasts of 36 terminal trucks deployed into its operations.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony of the new trucks in Onne, Rivers State on Wednesday, March 22, the Managing Director of WACT, Naved Zafar, said the latest set of equipment were acquired as part of a fresh investment of USD112 million by APM Terminals to upgrade and expand the terminal.
He added that, it’s not often that a port or terminal operator in Nigeria takes delivery of and commissions 16 brand new terminal trucks at the same time. It’s, therefore, a clear indication of the role that Onne Port is playing in the trade and economic development of our country, Nigeria.
Also speaking during the event, the Country Manager for APM Terminals Nigeria, Frederik Klinke, who lauded the management of WACT for the acquisition of the additional trucks said, “This is truly an amazing story, in a terminal that has essentially renewed itself on an existing ground, and now stands as a fully modern and fully equipped terminal. These trucks will enhance the capacity of WACT and enable it to handle more volume.”
