Working towards Cameroon’s National Maritime Transport Policy

Cameroon is the latest country to benefit from IMO’s work promoting good governance practice in the maritime sector to support sustainable development. A virtual workshop (14-18 March) has provided senior officials from various ministries, departments, agencies and other stakeholders with knowledge on the objectives, development process, content, implementation and updating of a National Maritime Transport Policy (NMTP).

These officials – who have a role to play in the legal, policy and institutional reforms required in developing an NMPT for Cameroon – have been introduced to the priorities and challenges involved in developing such a policy, while meeting international maritime convention duties and obligations.

This workshop was organized by IMO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport from Cameroon, and is being facilitated by the World Maritime University (WMU) and IMO. The maritime transport policy training programme material, which was revised and updated in 2021 by IMO with the assistance of consultants and in collaboration with WMU, is being used for the first time in the delivery of this activity.
