5th ORDINARY MEETING OF ECOWAS SUB-COMMITTEE OF THE CHIEFS OF NAVAL STAFF
The 5th Ordinary Meeting of the ECOWAS Sub-Committee of the Chiefs of Naval Staff is underway in Accra, Ghana, from February 18 to 20, 2026. Representing the President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, The Ambassador Abdel-Fatau Musah (Ph.D.) ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace & Security (CPAPS) opened the meeting.
The main objective of this meeting is to determine the legal status of staff deployed to ECOWAS Maritime Centres. Other key agenda items include implementation of recommendations from the 4th meeting in Cabo Verde, a framework for the Combined Maritime Task Force in the Gulf of Guinea, updates on joint maritime operations, status of deployed staff, and country presentations on maritime security. During his speech, the Commissioner emphasized the importance of securing the ECOWAS maritime zone and continuing collaboration among member states to address security challenges in the region. The meeting brings together participants from the ECOWAS Commission, the ECOWAS Maritime Centre, naval chiefs of staff and their operations officers.
