805 kg of cocaine seized by the Senegalese Navy off the coast of Dakar

On Sunday 22 January 2023, the Senegalese Navy intercepted a vessel suspected of international drug trafficking, the “MAMSINI SONKO FAYE”, IMO 6724232, 180 nautical miles off the coast, 335 km of Dakar.

On the basis of intelligence, the high seas patrol boat KEDOUGOU was deployed in the area, supported by the FALCON 50 maritime surveillance aircraft of the French Navy’s 24F flotilla, stationed in Dakar.

After a check carried out by the Senegalese Navy’s Special Sea Forces, the search led to the discovery of (805) kilograms of cocaine on board the vessel.

The vessel was then diverted to the Amiral FAYE GASSAMA naval base where it docked at 23:15 on 23 January 2023. The vessel, its equipment and the seven crew members, all of foreign nationality, were handed over to the competent authorities for further proceedings.
