A European Union delegation visits AGL Lobito Terminal’s multipurpose terminal following the AU/EU summit

On 26 November, a large European Union delegation of nearly 50 people visited the AGL Lobito terminal following the 7th European Union-African Union Summit held in Angola. Led by Transport Minister Ricardo Daniel Sandão Queirós Viegas D’Abreu, European Union Ambassador to Angola Rosário Bento Pais, and the Provincial Governor of Benguela, Manuel Nunes Junior, accompanied by AGL Lobito’s CEO, David Reekmans, the delegation was able to appreciate the Lobito corridor and the strategic importance of this port in the development of economic exchanges within the sub-region.

This visit coincided with the export of the first container of avocados to Europe and the transport of copper via the Lobito corridor. These products are 100% Angolan. The visit highlighted the progress made in the partnership between AGL and the local authorities.

“AGL is investing nearly €100 million to transform the port of Lobito into a modern, efficient and competitive port facility capable of meeting the expectations of domestic and international customers and contributing to the growth and diversification of the Angolan economy. Since the concession began in 2024, we have increased our unloading capacity to more than 40 containers per hour, compared to less than 30 in 2023,” explains David Reekmans, Managing Director of AGL Lobito.

‘We are committed to supporting the growth of economic exchanges in the sub-region through the Lobito corridor. What is being done here is encouraging,’ says Rosário Bento Pais, European Union Ambassador to Angola.

The Lobito Corridor is a strategic project that aims to promote economic development and regional integration in africa through a railway line that will connect the mining regions of Zambia and the DRC to the Atlantic via the port of Lobito in Angola. The European Union supports its development and AGL, the concessionaire of the port of Lobito, brings its expertise and the power of its logistics network to bear for the benefit of the country.
