African Shipping Lines Association (AAA)

African Shipping Lines Association (AAA) is a specialized body of the Maritime Organization of West and Central Africa (MOOWCA). She succeeded the Association of African Shipping Companies (ACNMA).

AAA was set up in Abidjan following resolution 188/11/01; at the meeting of MOWCA Ministers held from 16 to 18 October 2001. The chairmanship of the association is provided by COBENAM (Beninese Shipping Company).

Since 07 November 2019, the headquarters of the association is located in Benin, thanks to the signing of the headquarters agreement between MOWCA and the Beninese Government.

The association gathers all the armaments of the member countries of the organization. It pursues the same mission as the umbrella organization (IMO) and MOWCA of which it is a specialized body; which is to promote the safety, security and environmental efficiency of international shipping.

Its objectives are:

  • the association is intended to be a tool to promote international trade and to boost the armaments and ports of Member States through the promotion of cooperation in the field of armaments;
  • Harmonization of trade policies for member arms;
  • coordination of the commercial exploitation activities of the Member States;
  • The creation of a framework for consultation and exchanges on maritime safety and security issues.
