Angola: Financing of USD 600 million for the Integrated Development Project of the Bay of Moçâmedes
The Moçâmedes Bay Integrated Development Project (PIDBM) is one of the largest projects underway in Angola, as part of the programme to revitalise Angola’s maritime and port sub-sector, under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport.
The aim of the project is to position Angola on the international trade route, taking into account the economic potential of the southern region, while focusing on the mining sector.
The total cost of the project is USD 600 million, 85% of which is being financed by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and 15% by the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA).
The project is divided into two phases:
- Phase 1 involves the construction of a new berth for the Saco-Mar ore terminal, 520 metres long and with a draught of 20 metres, as well as buildings to support port activity.
- Phase 2 includes the construction of a new container terminal at a depth of -14 metres, which will increase the handling capacity of the port of Namibe and make it more efficient.
