APM Terminals’ CEO Meets Nigerian President: Discussion on opportunities and vision for the Nigerian port sector
President Bola Tinubu welcomed Mr. Keith Svendsen, Global CEO of APM Terminals, to the State House last week. The meeting underscored APM Terminals’ commitment to Nigeria as a key market in Africa, with the company playing over half of the containerized trade between Nigeria and the rest of the world.
During the meeting, Keith Svendsen articulated APM Terminals’ strategic vision for Nigeria, emphasizing the company’s integral role in the nation’s economic landscape. Nigeria’s strategic importance was highlighted, with APM Terminals operating two key terminals: the West Africa Container Terminal (WACT) in Onne and the Apapa terminal in Lagos.
At the WACT in Onne, APM Terminals recently completed a USD 115 million upgrade project, bolstering the terminal’s capacity and capabilities to meet the burgeoning demands of the market. This investment underscores APM Terminals’ commitment to ensuring efficient trade flows and accommodating future growth.
Meanwhile, the Apapa terminal in Lagos offers Nigerian importers and exporters unique access to international markets, facilitated not only by road but also by rail and barges. This multimodal connectivity enhances Nigeria’s trade competitiveness and strengthens its position in the global market.
In both terminals, APM Terminals has, in line with the global strategy, invested in advanced operational controls, digital interfaces, and extensive training of employees to provide customers with a fully modern and safe experience.
