Boluda Towage starts towing operations in Egypt with the acquisition of two tractor tugs
Spanish shipowner Boluda Towage recently launched its towing operations in Egypt with two 25-meter tractor tugs. These tugs, acquired from the Sanmar shipyard, have been transferred to the port of Alexandria to assist container ships in the port of Abu Qir.
Details of the acquisitions
During the fourth quarter of 2023, Boluda Towage purchased two tugs from Sanmar Shipyards’ Delicay series. These are the VB Amon, formerly known as Delicay X and built in 2022, and the VB Horus, formerly Delicay VIII, built in 2021. Both tugs have been designed to the specifications of Robert Allan Ltd’s TRAktor-Z 2500SX model, intended for ship maneuvering, escort and terminal support.
Technical specifications
The vessels, with a gross tonnage of 338, have a beam of 12 meters, a minimum depth of 4 meters and a maximum draught of around 7 meters. Their propulsion is based on two Cat 3516C HD D-rated main engines, each producing 2,100 kW at 1,600 rpm, driving two Kongsberg US 255 azimuthing thrusters equipped with fixed-pitch propellers, generating a pulling force of 75 tons and a speed of 12 knots in free running. The Delicay series tugs can carry up to 83,900 liters of fuel oil and 12,300 liters of fresh water, reinforcing their operational autonomy and their ability to meet the specific requirements of the port of Abu Qir.
The expansion of Boluda Towage’s operations in Egypt marks a significant step in the strengthening of its presence in Africa.
