Congo Terminal invests over FCFA 4.7 billion to extend its reefer yard
On 10 June 2025, Congo Terminal announced the extension of its refrigerated park over 2 hectares at a total cost of more than 4.7 billion CFA francs. The company has just added 840 additional standard sockets to the existing 1,029 in order to increase the storage capacity of imported fresh foodstuffs.
The project began in September 2024 and will take around 9 months to complete. It includes the construction of 12 5-level reefer gangways. This project provides Congo Terminal with the largest park of reefer terminals on the West African coast. The work was carried out in two phases: the first concerned civil engineering, the second the electrical part and the construction of the gangways.
‘Due to high local market demand, the volumes of imported frozen products have been growing constantly over the last few years, forcing us to import more and more refrigerated containers,’ explains Julia BITAR, Head of Supply at Prima Market. As a result, we now have to import a growing number of refrigerated containers,’ explains Julia BITAR, Head of Procurement at Prima Market. Prima Market is one of the largest importers, wholesalers and distributors of frozen poultry, fish and meat in the Congo.
‘We now have a largest reefer park with 1,869 plugs. Increasing the capacity of our reefer park is a response to the growing demand from the local and sub-regional markets. It also enables us to anticipate future needs,’ explains Anthony SAMZUN, Managing Director of Congo Terminal.
Since the beginning of the concession in 2009, Congo Terminal has already invested more than €450 million in infrastructure, staff training and the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment. Last September, the company announced an investment of more than 400 million euros in the construction of a port terminal on the East Mole of the Port of Pointe-Noire.
