Cruise Tourism Boom in 2026: Mombasa Port Welcomes MV Azamara Journey
MV Azamara Journey, a luxury liner has today docked at the port of Mombasa, marking a maiden voyage to the East African coast by the luxury liner.
She brings 669 international tourists and 386 crew for a two-day stay, with packed itineraries to the Masai Mara, Amboseli, and Tsavo East, alongside city tours and excursions.
MV Azamara Journey docks just a week after another liner MV Crystal Symphony called at the port of Mombasa with more than 1,000 guests.
Cabinet Secretary Ms. Rebecca Miano, welcoming the ship, highlighted a striking 140 percent surge in cruise tourism, which has boosted the nation’s overall visitor numbers.
Kenya Ports Authority Managing Director, Captain William Ruto, emphasized the Authority’s commitment to marketing the sector and providing the requisite infrastructure, confirming more vessels are slated for arrival in Mombasa this season.
Having sailed from Zanzibar, the vessel will next set its course for La Digue Seychelles.
