Gabon-China Strategic Agreement for the Development of River Ports

On 3 September 2024, at the 22nd Conference on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), Gabon strengthened its collaboration with China. Under the leadership of the President of the Transition, Brigadier General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, the Minister of Transport, Captain Dieudonné Loïc Ndinga Moudouma, held talks with the heads of the CHECH and Gabon Mining companies.

The main aim of these discussions was to finalise an agreement for the construction of the river ports of Ndjolé and Lambaréné, and to improve the navigability of the River Ogooué.

This ambitious project aims to facilitate the transport of manganese mined in the Ndjolé region to Port-Gentil, where a deep-water mineral port will be built. This strategic development is designed to stimulate the local economy and increase Gabon’s exports, thereby strengthening Gabon’s position on the international market.
