GAMBIA MARITIME ADMINISTRATION DIRECTOR GENERAL BEGIN NATIONWIDE TOUR OF BOAT LANDING SITES


The Director General of Gambia Maritime Administration (GMA), Mr. Karamo Bakary Janneh has started a two-week nationwide tour of Boat Landing Sites to meet and dialogue with local boat operators across the country.

Speaking to boat owners, VDC represenatives, the Alkalo, fire service personnel and other stakeholders, DG Janneh emphasized the need for boat owners to comply with GMA regulations governing safety at sea and protection of the marine environment. DG Janneh reiterated GMA’s commitment to ensure safety in Gambian waters while protecting the marine environment.

Other speakers at the meeting included Station Officer of the Barra Fire and Rescue Service Station and representatives of the village authorities as well as boat owners and operators. They all emphasized the need to maintain order in our waters and pledged to work together for the betterment of the maritime sector in the country.

The second day of the DG’s tour was marked by a meeting in Niumi Jurunku and Albreda. In these two Boat Landing Sites, GMA officials urged boat operator to work together closely in safeguarding safety at sea and protect the marine resources and environment.

The DG continues his tour of sites in North Bank before proceeding to CRR in the coming days.
