Intervention of the GoGIN II Project at the EU-Africa Chamber of Commerce Event on Maritime Sector Financing

On 17th and 18th October, the GoGIN II project was invited to a major event organised by the EU-Africa Chamber of Commerce, focused on financing the maritime sector in Africa, held in Abidjan. This meeting brought together experts and key decision-makers, providing a platform to examine the challenges and opportunities facing the maritime sector in Africa.

This was an opportunity for Olivier Bichon, Capacity Building Expert for the GoGIN II project, to participate in a panel discussion on the impact of new technologies on the maritime sector.

The emphasis was placed on the real-time utilisation of the YARIS platform, which enables the generation of automated maritime images illustrating certain illicit activities. This demonstration highlighted the suspicious activity of a refrigerated cargo vessel (reefer) involved in potential transshipment operations with fishing vessels in the Ivorian maritime space.

Thus, the GoGIN II project remains a key player in promoting maritime security and sustainable development in Africa, while illustrating the necessity of integrating advanced technological solutions in the fight against illicit activities at sea.
