Invitation to Bid : Supply and Delivery of Fisheries, Safety-at-Sea, Cold Chain and Post-Harvest Equipment for the Mauritius and Rodrigues Blue Economy Demonstration Project

1. Background

The Supporting Sustainable Inclusive Blue Economy Transformation in African SIDS (AfriSIDS) Project is a regional initiative funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The project supports participating African Small Island Developing States, including Cabo Verde, Comoros, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritius, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Seychelles, in advancing sustainable blue economy development through improved marine resource management, enhanced livelihoods, climate resilience and strengthened value chains within coastal and marine sectors. Through a series of national demonstration pilots across these participating countries, the project promotes practical, scalable approaches to sustainable blue economy transformation.

The Mauritius Blue Economy Demonstration is being implemented under the African SIDS Blue Economy Transformation Project. The demonstration seeks to reduce pressure on overexploited marine ecosystems by promoting sustainable offshore fishing and associated value-addition activities among local communities involved in the blue economy sector in the Republic of Mauritius.

The project will support artisanal fishers, fishmongers and selected community beneficiaries through the provision of fisheries, safety-at-sea, cold-chain, fish display and post-harvest processing equipment.

The Responsible Party for the Mauritius demonstration is the Ministry of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries.
