On Monday, April 10, 2023, at approximately 10:00 p.m. (Singapore time), the Singapore-flagged oil tanker SUCCESS 9 was attacked by pirates in international waters, approximately 600 kilometers south of Abidjan.
As soon as this event occurred and following the alert given by the Regional Center for Maritime Security in West Africa, the Ivorian Navy immediately dispatched the high seas patrol vessel Rear Admiral FADIKA with the mission to locate the vessel and rescue the crew. After five days of searching at sea and in collaboration with a French Navy aircraft based in Dakar, the tanker was found and brought to safety.
Today, April 15, the vessel was escorted by Ivorian sailors to the Port Autonome d’Abidjan for investigation formalities. As for the crew, they are safe and sound and are receiving psychological care.
The Chief of Staff of the Ivorian Armed Forces expressed his satisfaction to all the units involved in this operation and welcomed the fruitful collaboration between the French Navy, the maritime security actors and the Ivorian Navy.
