Morocco re-elected to the IMO Council at the 33rd session of its General Assembly

Morocco was re-elected to the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) at the 33rd session of its General Assembly in London, on Friday December 1, 2023. This re-election confirms the choice position the Kingdom occupies within the international maritime community in general, and within this crucial UN institution.

Morocco’s re-election to the IMO Council represents the crowning achievement of the sustained efforts and dynamic role the Kingdom has played within IMO bodies. This re-election is the fruit of a promotion campaign orchestrated jointly by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad. The Ministerial Departments concerned and the Public Establishments and Enterprises under their supervision also made a significant contribution to this victory.

This re-election testifies to the confidence placed in Morocco by the international maritime community, marking international recognition of the progress made by the country, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, particularly in the maritime and port sectors.

Since joining the IMO in 1962, Morocco has consistently supported the IMO’s actions to enhance maritime safety and security, combat pollution, improve sea freight operations and simplify procedures within the IMO.
