The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) under the leadership of Comrade Francis Bunu Abi has congratulated members of the Inter-Ministerial Committee in recognition of their contributions to Nigeria’s successful election into category ‘C’ of the council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the year 2026-2027 biennium.

The numero uno of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria, says the feat recorded so far for the country on November 28, 2025 in London, where Nigeria secured a seat on the IMO Council, was a significant impact and a milestone in the history of the country’s Maritime space and diplomatic engagements, saying it was indeed remarkable and highly commendable and worthy of national celebration.

The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria PG did commend the wholesome efforts of the set committee, which were a critical factor in promoting Nigeria’s Maritime reforms and its capability on the global stage; thereby, strengthening Nigeria’s position within the international Maritime space.

However, while Comrade Bunu, PG of MWUN thanked Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy for the achieved feat, the effectiveness of the committee members cannot also be overemphasized; recalling that that visible feat reignited the country’s commitment to the objectives of the IMO and its enhanced international Maritime cooperation; whilst also thanking the federal government of Nigeria for promoting the country’s interest within the global Maritime governance.
