National Port Authority Commends President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for Vetoing Port Autonomy Bills in National Interest

The Management of the National Port Authority expresses its profound gratitude to His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, President of the Republic of Liberia, for his decisive and prudent decision and insightful leadership in vetoing the two Port Autonomy Bills recently passed by the Liberian Legislature.

President Boakai’s action, exercised in accordance with Article 35 of the Constitution of Liberia, reflects a deep commitment to protecting the long-term national interest, preserving the integrity of port governance, and ensuring that legislative reforms are implemented with clarity, coherence, and foresight.

The President’s veto message highlights several critical concerns, including ambiguities in the proposed legislative framework, risks of misinterpretation, and the excessive composition of nine-member boards for each individual port. The Management of the NPA fully aligns with the President’s assessment and commends his vigilance in safeguarding the nation’s strategic infrastructure assets.
