Opening of a Weekly Commercial Maritime Line Between Algeria and Spain

On 25 November 2025, the Port Authority of Skikda held a working session with the Spanish shipping company MARGUISA, representing the global maritime transport giant HMM, to examine and arrange the operational aspects related to the launch of a regular commercial shipping line for container transport between the Port of Valencia in Spain and the Port of Skikda.

This maritime line is expected to enter service in January 2026, with one trip per week, thereby strengthening the position of the Port of Skikda as a strategic logistics hub in the Mediterranean basin.

This project is part of the expansion of maritime commercial activities in Algeria, particularly following the success of the pilot voyages carried out by the company at the Port of Skikda. These trials demonstrated their effectiveness in loading and unloading operations, reducing vessel turnaround time, as well as confirming the availability of qualified human resources, technical capabilities, and modern equipment recently acquired by the company. This also includes the ongoing expansion of the container terminal, which will increase the port’s handling capacity.

The shipping company also announced that this regular line will, in the future, be operated by two vessels dedicated to container transport, thus offering a fast and direct connection between Mediterranean ports, with particular emphasis on the Port of Skikda, which is set to become an essential logistics gateway in eastern Algeria and the wider region.
