Senegal: Minister Papa Sagna Mbaye inaugurates a fiberglass boat manufacturing plant in Mbaling

On Tuesday December 5, 2023, the Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, Mr. Papa Sagna Mbaye, inaugurated a factory for the manufacture of fiberglass pirogues, in Mbour, more precisely in Mbaling on the road to Joal.

During the inauguration ceremony, the Minister emphasized the importance of fiberglass canoes, which are much more resistant than wooden canoes, thus helping to reinforce safety at sea for those involved in artisanal fishing. In addition to guaranteeing greater safety, these boats also represent an economic return for the sector.

Mr. Papa Sagna Mbaye added that these fiberglass boats have a very positive impact on the environment, avoiding deforestation.

He also thanked the AFRICAN FIBERGLASS SOLUTION company for this fine project, and praised the support of the Délégation Générale à l’Entreprenariat Rapide des Femmes et des Jeunes (DERFJ) for its backing.

The event was marked by the enthusiastic mobilization of artisanal fishing stakeholders, who warmly welcomed Minister Papa Sagna Mbaye.
