SEYCHELLES DEFENCE FORCES INTERCEPT VESSEL SUSPECTED OF NARCOTICS TRAFFICKING

The Seychelles Defence Forces, in collaboration with the Seychelles Police and partner agencies, successfully conducted an operation to intercept a local pleasure craft suspected of transporting narcotics in Seychelles waters. The joint operation involved coordination between the Seychelles Coast Guard and the Seychelles Air Force.

On 07th October 2024, a Seychelles Air Force Maritime Patrol Aircraft identified the suspected vessel during a maritime surveillance mission. Patrol Ship Topaz, already on duty, was dispatched to intercept the high-speed craft, which had three Seychellois crew members on board. Crew members were observed discarding items into the water before complying with orders to stop. The discarded items, believed to be narcotics, were recovered.

The vessel was escorted back to port, and all evidence was handed over to the police for further investigation.
