Seychelles Ports Authority Strengthens Its Fleet with a New Modern Tugboat
The Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA) welcomed yesterday afternoon the latest tugboat to its fleet at Port Victoria, marking a significant milestone in improving its maritime operations. The vessel arrived shortly after 2p.m., escorted by the tugboats Mamelles and Alouette through the approach channel. As an official welcome, the tugboat Ste Anne greeted it with an impressive water jet near the Lighthouse monument.
This new tugboat, measuring 21.02 meters in length, 10.81 meters in width, and with a draft of 4.5 meters, is equipped with an Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) propulsion system. It has a bollard pull of 50 tonnes and can reach a maximum speed of 12 knots, making it a powerful and modern addition to the fleet.
Its arrival coincides with the SPA’s 20th anniversary, celebrated on October 14, 2024, illustrating the Port Authority’s dynamism and constant progress. This tugboat adds to a fleet now composed of four units, with the previous one, Mamelles, having been commissioned last year.
An official inauguration ceremony, scheduled for October 29, 2024, on the Mahé quay, will mark the vessel’s commissioning. On this occasion, its name will be unveiled in the presence of high-ranking government officials and port sector partners.
