Signature of a MoU between the Dakar Port Authority and the Island of Gorée
The Director General of the Dakar Port Authority, Mr Aboubacar Sédikh BEYE and the Mayor of Gorée, Mr Augustin Senghor, signed a memorandum on Tuesday 30 August 2022, aimed at addressing the grievances of the people of Gorée.
This agreement agreed between the two institutions after 48 hours of consultation, stipulates
- the Dakar Port Authority will grant a subsidy of 50,000,000 francs to the commune of Gorée. With an increase of more than 150% compared to previous years;
- the commune of Gorée will collect, through its services at the pier, a tax of 500 CFA francs on the price of each ticket sold. Nevertheless, without any increase in the price of tickets;
- to facilitate their travel, the people of Gorée will have priority access to the ships of the Gare Maritime Internationale de Dakar (GMID) and the Liaison Maritime Dakar Gorée (LMDG) from 15 September 2022. The Dakar Port Authority, with its desire to renew the existing fleet, will accelerate the process of acquiring new vessels already underway, to provide optimal comfort and enhanced security for users.
It is also noted that the Dakar Port Authority is committed to supporting the youth of Gorée by providing training in port trades and jobs in this field.
As for the commune of Gorée, it has committed itself to putting in place a special reception and welcome system for LMDG users, both on arrival and departure.
According to Mr BEYE, Gorée is a world heritage, we are all linked to it. This is why the Dakar Port Authority wants to participate in its preservation.
