Signature of a new port concession agreement between Gambia Ports Authority and the Albayrak group
On Thursday 11 July 2024, the Gambia Ports Authority signed the New Port Concession Project Agreement with the Albayrak Group for the expansion of the Banjul Port and construction of a new 12m deep sea port at Sanyang.
The signing ceremony took place at the Sir Dawda Jawara Conference Center and was presided over by the ministers of Transport Works and Infrastructure ; and the Finance and Economic Affairs.
The event was attended by several other senior government officials and heads of institutions including the Commissioner General of the GRA, Director General of the Gambia Maritime Administration, General Manager of Ferries, members of the business community amongst others.
The concession project will foster efficiency in the port management and all other services within the port ecosystem. It will also provide quicker delivery of good and services, significantly improve the operational turnaround time of doing business at the Gambian port.
The project is also expected to introduce cutting edge technologies from the very start for enhanced seamless operations at the Ports.
