Signing of the Agreement on Minimum Conditions of Service for Labor in Nigeria’s Shipping Industry
On Friday 23 August 2024, the Honourable Minister Adegboyega Oyetola witnessed the historic signing of the Agreement on Minimum Conditions of Service for Labor in Nigeria’s Shipping Industry.
This historic agreement demonstrates a firm commitment to a fair, sustainable and dignified Marine and Blue Economy, where the rights, safety, and welfare of workers are paramount.
As part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope’ Agenda, this initiative not only improves operational efficiency, but also promotes ethical practices, fair competition and mutual respect within the maritime sector. Achieving this milestone is the result of extensive collaboration and shared dedication between all stakeholders.
Minister Adegboyega expresses his sincere gratitude to the Nigerian Shippers‘ Council, the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), the Shipping Companies/Agencies Clearing and Freight Forwarding Employers Association (SCAFEA) and the workers who played a crucial role in the development of this agreement.
