The Baie Ste Anne Praslin jetty handed over to the Seychelles Coast Guard

The Baie Ste Anne Praslin Jetty has been officially handed over by the Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA) to the Seychelles Coast Guard in an official ceremony.
The documents were signed by the Minister of Transport, Antony Derjacques, and the Chief of the Defence Forces, Brigadier Michael Rosette, in the presence of President Wavel Ramkalawan, Commander-in-Chief, Mr Gilbert Frichot, Chairman of the SPA, and Mr Sony Payet, Director General of the SPA.

In his address, President Wavel Ramkalawan said that the government would be stepping up its efforts to combat illegal activities such as drug trafficking. “This base forms part of the government’s strategy to have better oversight of the Praslin and La Digue region. We all know that there is a lot happening here, and today I wish to reassure the people of Seychelles that the fight against these illegal activities will continue.”

“Our presence in different strategic points of our territory gives us an operational advantage, that also ensures that we are able to react more efficiently in a reasonable time frame. This can create a big difference, especially in the outcome of operations such as medical evacuations and search and rescue missions. This can be the difference between life and death,” said Brigadier Michael Rosette.

It should be noted that all the parties expressed their appreciation for the existing cooperation between the government entities in the continuing fight against illegal activities and the promotion of maritime safety.
