The company Terminal à Conteneurs de Nouakchott (TCN), equally owned by Africa Finance Corporation and Meridiam, has announced that it has finalized the acquisition of APM Terminals Mauritanie (APMTM) on December 22, 2023.

APMTM, majority-owned by APM Terminals, has been operating in Mauritania since 2014, handling container and bulk vessels at the Port Autonome de Nouakchott “dit Port de l’Amitié” (PANPA) and the Port Autonome de Nouadhibou, Mauritania’s two main ports.

Together with TCN, APMTM is now a major player in port handling in Mauritania, actively contributing to the growth of port traffic and the country’s economic development. Since April 2022, TCN has been operating a large-scale container and hydrocarbon terminal at the port of Nouakchott, as part of Mauritania’s first public-private partnership.

Through this acquisition, TCN and its two shareholders intend to strengthen their activities in Mauritania in the service of Mauritanian exporters and importers, and to pursue their investment efforts in the modernization of equipment and services at the Ports of Nouakchott and Nouadhibou.

Ultimately, this operation will enable TCN to achieve its ambition of contributing structurally to the sustainable growth of the Mauritanian economy, to the creation of added value through the development of new import and export opportunities, and to the development of a skilled workforce.
