Union of the Comoros: Captain Said Lavani Appointed Deputy Director of the Regional Maritime Information Fusion Centre (RMIFC)
Captain Said Lavani has been appointed Deputy Director of the Regional Maritime Information Fusion Centre (RMIFC), a designation that reflects the confidence placed in his expertise and unwavering commitment to strengthening regional maritime security.
The appointment was officially endorsed on 23 July 2026 during the meeting of the Steering Committee of the Safe Seas for Africa (SSA) Programme under the Regional Maritime Security Architecture (RMSA). The meeting, funded by the European Union and implemented by the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), was held at the Labourdonnais Hotel in Port Louis, Republic of Mauritius.
Captain Said Lavani will continue to serve simultaneously as the International Liaison Officer representing the Union of the Comoros to the RMIFC, based in Antananarivo, Madagascar. This new responsibility recognizes his professionalism, leadership, and sustained commitment to strengthening maritime information sharing, coordination among States, and regional cooperation in the field of maritime security.
For reference, the Regional Maritime Information Fusion Centre (RMIFC) is a regional cooperation mechanism bringing together seven (7) States from Eastern and Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean. Its mission is to collect, analyze, and disseminate maritime information in order to enhance maritime safety and security across the region.
