Blue Horizon Seminar – Exploring Gender Dynamics in Blue Economy : Examining the Role and Challenges Faced by Women in Maritime and Aquatic Sectors
On Wednesday, 20 March 2024, from 3pm to 4pm CET, the first Blue Horizon seminar entitled “Exploring Gender Dynamics in Blue Economy: Examining the Role and Challenges Faced by Women in Maritime and Aquatic Sectors,” organised by the UNESCO Chair in Ocean Governance and the Centre for Blue Governance, University of Portsmouth, will be held online via ZOOM.
Led by esteemed figures in academia and industry, the seminar aims to dissect the intricate challenges women encounter within maritime and aquatic sectors. From navigating systemic barriers to addressing instances of violence, harassment, and discrimination, the discussion will shed light on the often unacknowledged contributions of women in these domains.
The Chair of the seminar, Prof. Pierre Failler, Professor of Economics, UNESCO Chair in Ocean Governance, Director of Centre for Blue Governance, University of Portsmouth, will guide the proceedings. Joining him are a panel of experts including:
- Prof. Leïla Choukroune, Professor of International Law, Director of the Democratic Citizenship inter-Faculty Research Theme, University of Portsmouth
- Pascaline Odoubourou, Founder and Editor in Chief of MARITIMAFRICA
- Dr. Bonny Ling, Executive Director of Work Better Innovations
- Dr. Sophie Quintin, a researcher in maritime geopolitics from the University of Portsmouth.
