GEFCO open a new warehouse in Tanger Med Logistics Zone

The 10,000 m2 facility includes 11 loading and unloading docks.

GEFCO, a global multimodal supply chain expert and a leading provider of automotive logistics in Europe, has opened a new warehouse in Morocco to support the company’s expansion in a major market, where some of the world’s leading 3PL and industrial suppliers operate.

Opened in January 2021, the 10,000 m² facility is located in the Tanger Med Logistics Zone, “Medhub”, which is considered a main logistic gateway to the European and African markets with over a billion customers.

The new warehouse will enable GEFCO to offer a complete range of solutions, including Strait of Gibraltar crossings and customs services. It will also extend the storage and transport services that the Group already offers to a wide variety of customers, especially in the industrial sector. More than 135 companies and automotive suppliers will benefit from GEFCO’s new facilities in Tanger Med, including PSA, Continental, Faurecia, 3M, Novares and Valeo.

“This is an exciting moment for the logistics sector in Africa, especially the Maghreb,” said Sebastien Roger, GEFCO’s General Manager for Morocco. “Morocco has a powerful workforce, world-class infrastructure, such as the Tanger Med port, and great opportunities for growth due to its strategic geographical location. Our commitment is to continue investing in Morocco to provide customers in the region with the most agile, intelligent and innovative solutions for their businesses.”

GEFCO’s new space in Tangier has the highest levels of security, including 20 security cameras that ensure 24/7 surveillance, as well as a state-of-the-art fire-fighting system and two security ramps.

“Tanger Med Logistical Zone offers more than 200 Ha including ready to use warehouses for advanced logistics operations and enjoys full integration with Tanger Med Port hence offering weekly connectivity to more than 186 ports worldwide. The Logistical Zone is a perfect choice for large multinationals and logistical operators seeking to optimize their logistics operations and redistribute their flow of goods to Africa, Europe and America,” said Rachid Houari, General Manager, Medhub.

The new warehouse also strengthens GEFCO’s position in the Maghreb, a key geographical area for the company, which has made significant strategic investments there in recent years. In August 2018, GEFCO acquired GLT, a specialist in Europe-Morocco transport and the leading operator of Algeciras-Tangiers crossings. In 2019, GEFCO began transporting Groupe PSA vehicles by rail from its Kenitra factory and, at the end of 2020, created the Groupe PSA Client Cluster General Management for the Iberian Peninsula and Morocco.

Thanks to these investments, GEFCO is now a leader in the country’s logistics sector, providing multimodal solutions by road, sea and air, as well as finished vehicle logistics, warehousing, customs and tax, reusable packaging and time-critical solutions to a wide variety of customers.
