Visiting Ethiopian delegation led by Transport and Logistics Minister H.E Dr. Alemu Sime toured the Inland waterway Port of Kisumu

The Port of Kisumu connects the lake region of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda and supports intermodal transport with connection to rail, road and water transport.

The intermodal transport system has seen robust business between the Ports of Kisumu, Jinja, Port Bell, Mwanza and Bukoba. Plans are underway for Kenya Ports Authority to develop a passenger terminal to support lake transport.

With a capacity to handle up to 300,000 metric tons of cargo, the Port of Kisumu has registered increased cargo volumes since its rehabilitation in 2017.

From January 2023 to July 2023, the Port handled a cumulative 60,910 metric tons of cargo; an increase of 33,662.2 tons on cumulative cargo throughput compared to similar period in 2022, representing a 55.3% growth.
