GHANA NAVY INTERCEPTS 59 SACKS OF MARIJUANA
The Riverine Command of the Ghana Navy has intercepted a canoe carrying 59 sacks of marijuana during an intelligence-led anti-narcotics operation at the Ada estuary on Sunday 19 July 2026.
The operation unfolded at about 5:30 a.m. when the naval team intercepted a canoe attempting to cross the estuary into the open sea. The occupants abandoned the canoe and swam away after spotting the naval team.
A search conducted on the canoe used for the operation uncovered 59 sacks of marijuana, 24 containers of 25-litre fuel, two 40-horsepower outboard motors, a Tecno mobile phone, a Voter’s ID card.
The Ghana Navy subsequently handed over the seized items to the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) for further investigations. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the suspects who fled the scene.
Ghana Navy remains committed to safeguarding the maritime domain of Ghana and to denying criminal networks access to the inland waterways and coastal areas of the country for illicit activities.
